Outboard Motor Repair & Service
Outboard motor repair is the majority of what we do — Yamaha, Mercury, Honda, Suzuki, Tohatsu and the older Evinrude and Johnson two-strokes, diagnosed and repaired wherever your boat is sitting.

The motors we work on
Most outboard problems are brand-specific long before they're generic. A Yamaha F-series that won't hold idle and a Mercury Verado that won't hold idle are different diagnoses, different parts and different software.
Yamaha — F-series four-strokes across the range, plus the older two-stroke V4s and V6s. Corrosion in the midsection and exhaust on higher-hour saltwater motors is worth checking before it becomes structural.
Mercury & Mariner — FourStroke, Verado, OptiMax and the older carbureted two-strokes. Verado supercharger service intervals get skipped more than any other scheduled item we see. Full Mercury and MerCruiser service →
Honda — BF-series four-strokes. Among the most durable outboards built, which means the failures we see are almost entirely deferred maintenance rather than defects.
Suzuki — DF-series, including lean-burn models. Strong motors with a thin local service network, so most owners are driving further than they should for routine work.
Evinrude & Johnson — E-TEC and the whole classic two-stroke lineage. BRP ended Evinrude production in 2020, which left a lot of good motors around Columbia County with no dealer path. Evinrude and Johnson service →
Tohatsu & Nissan — small and mid-range four-strokes, and the portable motors most shops won't schedule.
Older and orphaned brands — Chrysler, Force, Gale, Scott-Atwater. Vintage outboard work →

What we repair
Tune-ups and annual maintenance →
Plugs, fuel filters, carb or injector service and a full compression test. The cheapest repair you'll ever buy.
Water pump and impeller replacement →
The scheduled item that prevents the single most expensive failure on an outboard.
Lower unit repair and gear oil →
Milky gear oil, seal leaks, bearing noise and shift trouble.
Skeg repair and replacement →
Rock strikes, bent and snapped skegs, weld repair and bolt-on replacements.
Engine oil changes →
Four-stroke crankcase oil and filter, done at your boat.
Cowling repair →
Cracked and broken engine covers repaired rather than replaced at OEM prices.
Overhaul and rebuild →
Compression testing, powerhead work, and an honest rebuild-versus-repower answer first.
Anode and zinc replacement →
Corrosion protection that stops working once the zinc is half gone.
Two-stroke repair → · Small and kicker motors → · Vintage restoration → · Repower and replacement →

Start with the symptom rather than the repair:
Won't start · Overheating · Won't idle · Losing power · Won't shift
How outboard repair works with us
The boat doesn't move. We work at your slip, lift, driveway, storage lot or the ramp — service area here.
Diagnosis comes before the quote. You get the actual finding and a price before anything is disassembled. Rates are published.
Most jobs finish in one visit. The van carries plugs, filters, impeller kits, gear oil, anodes and common fuel-system parts. Work that genuinely needs a bench — powerhead teardown, lower unit rebuilds — gets flagged upfront, not discovered halfway.
We work on motors other shops decline. Pre-2000 two-strokes, orphaned brands and small kickers are a large share of what we do, not an exception we tolerate.

What owners say
Frequently asked questions
Is there an outboard mechanic near me who'll come to the boat?
That's the whole model — we service outboards across Columbia County at your slip, driveway or ramp rather than asking you to trailer it in. How on-site service works · service area.
Do I need to take it to an outboard repair shop?
Usually not. Most outboard repair happens where the boat sits. The exception is major internal work — a powerhead rebuild or a lower unit that needs pressing apart — which we'll tell you about before starting.
What does outboard motor repair cost?
Our hourly rate, call-out fee and flat-rate pricing are published here. Most routine jobs land in a predictable range; we quote before we start.
Do you work on two-stroke outboards?
Yes, including carbureted motors from the 1970s onward. Two-stroke repair is a category most shops have quietly dropped.
How do I know whether to repair or replace an outboard?
Compression and leak-down first, then the arithmetic. When a rebuild quote passes roughly half the cost of a new motor, repowering usually wins — we run the comparison honestly.
Can you get parts for an older or discontinued motor?
Usually. Parts availability for orphaned brands is better than most owners assume, though lead times vary. We'll tell you upfront if something is genuinely unobtainable rather than stringing the job out.
How often does an outboard actually need servicing?
Once a season or every 100 hours for most four-strokes, whichever comes first. Full maintenance schedule.
