Inboard, sterndrive, jet and diesel work is quoted per job — access varies far too much between boats to publish a flat rate honestly. As a guide, expect inboard and sterndrive labour to run roughly [X]% above outboard for equivalent work, because getting to the engine is most of the job. Inboard & sterndrive → · Jet → · Diesel →

What pushes a job above the range

We'd rather you know these upfront than hear them as excuses afterwards:

You approve any change before it happens. If the job moves outside the quote, work stops and we call. Nobody gets an invoice with a surprise on it.

Why we publish this

Almost nobody in this trade does, and the reason usually given — "every job is different" — is only half true. Diagnosis varies. An impeller replacement doesn't.

Publishing rates means you can work out whether to call before you spend fifteen minutes on the phone finding out, and it means the number you're told on the dock is the number you read on the website.

Frequently asked questions

What does outboard motor repair cost?
Labour is $X/hour, with flat-rate pricing on common jobs — a tune-up runs $X–$X, an impeller $X–$X. The table above covers the work we do most.

Is the diagnostic fee credited if I go ahead with the repair?
Yes — it comes off the final invoice. / No — it's charged separately, and here's why: …

Do you charge to come out?
$X within RADIUS. Beyond that it's quoted before we book, never added afterwards.

What if the repair costs more than the quote?
Work stops and we call you. You approve any change before it happens.

Is it cheaper if I bring the boat to you?
No — we're mobile, so there's nowhere to bring it. The call-out fee is generally less than a round trip with a trailer costs you in fuel and time anyway.

Are parts included in the flat rates?
Yes, unless the table notes otherwise. Parts on non-flat-rate work are itemised at cost + X% / list.

Do you give written estimates?
Yes, free, before any work starts.

Why is inboard work more expensive than outboard?
Access. An outboard is worked on standing at the transom; an inboard means getting into an engine bay, and sometimes removing a drive before the actual job can begin.
